nk thu pasal"moose"

moose......
The word moose is a borrowing from an Algonquian language, probably Narragansett, and according to early sources likely derived from moosu meaning "he strips off". The word 'moose' first entered English in 1606 from Captain Thomas Hanham's 'Mus' (compare to Abenaki mus), and in 1616 from Captain John Smith's 'Moos', with possible mutual reinforcement in usage.

The moose (North America) or Eurasian elk (Europe) (Alces alces) is the largest extant species in the deer family. Moose are distinguished by the palmate antlers of the males; other members of the family have antlers with a "twig-like" configuration. Moose typically inhabit boreal and mixed deciduous forests of the Northern Hemisphere in temperate to subarctic climates.
